What is on TV
I have several select Television shows that I watch and recommend for educators in the classroom. One of my most favorite is Public Broadcasting Series (PBS) called History Detectives. History Detectives is devoted to exploring the complexities of historical mysteries, searching out the facts, myths and conundrums that connect local folklore, family legends and interesting objects. You can introduce your students to History Detectives using the website features and educational lesson plans. All of the elements here allow you to support your curriculum and the national history standards in unique ways. It comes on on Monday nights at 9pm.
Another PBS show that I have been following is Jean-Michel Cousteau : Ocean Adventures . Jean-Michel Cousteau and his expedition team have set sail to explore dangerous and spectacular locales across the globe in a high-definition series. They have captured the excitement of exploration and put their discoveries in an educational context for teachers called Jean-Michel Cousteau : Ocean Adventures: For Educators. The show meets national and state curriculum requirements and the resources will amaze you at the ease of use. If you decide to buy an episode, they are only $25.00 each. It comes on PBS Wednesday July 19, 2006 at 8:00 pm for the third episode.
Take 5 is a great Discovery Channel/ Travel Channel series that is not only educational but has all the technical blings that your students love. A pioneering interactive television series, 5 Takes chronicles the journey of five young travelers on the adventure of a lifetime. With video cameras, laptops and US$50 a day, the five travel journalists. A new series starts this fall!
The last series has the (TJs) visiting 12 cities across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 12 weeks. They had one mission: to share their experiences with the world through their five unique perspectives. It has blogs, webisodes, Vblogs, and mobledownloads. The best feature is a Talkback Forum that allows your students to talk directly to the 5 Takes (TJs) and help them decide where to go and what to do.
If you have other favorites that have an educational component please share by posting comments. I will continue to post as I find them too.
