Program RequirementsProcedures for determining teacher-candidate eligibility
Georgia TAPP teacher-candidates must meet the following minimum criteria for admission:
  • A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field, with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in all college-level work completed or acceptance into a state approved teacher certification program
  • A passing score on GACE (http://www.gace.nesinc.com)(or SAT, ACT, or GRE scores high enough to exempt this requirement)
    • SAT exemptions: minimum combined verbal and mathematics score of 1000
    • GRE exemption: minimum combined verbal and quantitative score of 1030
    • ACT exemption: minimum combined English and mathematics score of 43
  • A satisfactory criminal background check
  • An offer of a full-time teaching position by a participating school system

Please note: PRAXIS scores will be accepted by Georgia Professional Standards Commission under certain conditions after August 31, 2006. Please contact us or visit the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website for details. As of the Fall of 2006, Praxis 2 tests will no longer be given unless one part of the Praxis 2 test has been completed and passed. Praxis I has been replaced by the GACE Basic Skills Test. Please visit the GACE website for details on testing and score delivery dates.
